Attorney Joe Diemert is a native of the Greater Cleveland area and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame (with honors), Georgetown University Law School, and Cathedral Latin High School. He taught high school and junior college and served in the U.S. Department of Justice as an advisor. During his time at Georgetown, Mr. Diemert’s studies focused on the areas of Real Estate law, Contracts, Business and Corporate law, Litigation and Appellate law, Constitutional law and Municipal Labor law.
Mr. Diemert has maintained a Commercial Real Estate law practice and Corporate law practice in which he has represented individuals and entities of all forms in numerous multi-million dollar transactions. He has litigated Landlord/Tenant and Real Estate matters through the Supreme Court and has won multi-million dollar verdicts, and his successes have resulted in state-wide landmark precedents.
Through the years, Mr. Diemert has served as legal counsel for numerous political subdivisions and officials, being well-respected in all aspects of Municipal Law including public employee law, zoning, safety servies, building and development. He has provided representation to numerous area safety force organizations including the Northern Ohio Firefighters’ Association, the Cleveland Firefighters’ union, dozens of other local firefighter unions and Fraternal Orders of Police, including the State-wide Ohio FOP. On behalf of these employee organizations, Mr. Diemert has presented arguments before and obtained favorable decisions from all levels of courts, including the Ohio Supreme Court. He has also testified before the Ohio General Assembly on issues relating to Municipal Government and public employees. Mr. Diemert was instrumental in seminal public sector cases involving the Public Employee Collective Bargaining Act, privacy rights and the recent statewide prohibition on municipal employee residency requirements.
